We can start choosing healthy foods from vegetables, fruits and grains. They have low fat content and contain no cholesterol. They are a good source of fiber, contains carbohydrates and vitamins. To be able to choose healthy foods, here are some tips that we can deliver.</p>
<p>First, Palm is a food with high fat content.</p>
<p>Therefore, we recommend you use a rare order to avoid too much fatty food enters the body.</p>
<p>Second, when you cook vegetables, no added saturated fat or cholesterol. Example, we often add the egg yolks into the bread or even into the pasta. This is not a healthy way.  Third, avoid canned food. Canned foods often contain preservatives or sodium. For some people too much sodium can cause high blood pressure.</p>
<p>Third, Nut and seeds tend to have high calorie and fat content of the lot. Therefore, try to pick nuts and seeds that contain less fat and cholesterol.  To be able to eat healthily, eat foods with high fiber content. Examples include oat bran, oatmeal, beans, peas, rice brand, barley, and others. You need healthy food choices to get accustomed to living a healthy life. Make sure you read the nutrition label or other information when selecting foods. You can determine whether the existing content in the diet and how healthy for us.</p>

<p>Fact: Diabetics can eat sugar and sweets just like non  diabetics. The key is moderation and ensuring the sugary snacks are  incorporated into a healthy eating regimen and accounted for with  appropriate dose of insulin.</p>
<p>3.	All people with Diabetes must take  insulin.<br />
Complete Myth.</p>
<p>Fact: There are several different types of  diabetes. People with Type 2 Diabetes are generally able to control  their symptoms with diet and exercise. It is usually only people with  Type 1 Diabetes who must use insulin injections to regulate their  bodies.</p>
<p>4.	People can get Diabetes from eating too many sugary  things.<br />
Ridiculous Myth.</p>
<p>Fact: You cannot &#8216;catch&#8217; diabetes from eating  too many sweets. Diabetes occurs as a result of a genetic  pre-disposition and/or from a serious infection that creates an  autoimmune reaction within the body.</p>
<p>5.	Diabetes only affects  obese people.<br />
Completely wrong.</p>
<p>Fact: Diabetes can affect people in all  stages of health and fitness. Type 2 Diabetes is associated with  lifestyle factors such as obesity; however, a thin body type is not a  guarantee against the development of diabetes.</p>
<p>6.	People with  Diabetes will die young.<br />
Not anymore.</p>
<p>Fact: Way back in the 1920s this was true. But  thanks to discovery of insulin and medical advancements over the course  of the past 9 decades, diabetes isn&#8217;t a death sentence any more. People  with properly managed diabetes symptoms are just as likely to live long  and fulfilled lives as their non diabetic friends.</p>
<p>7.	People with  Diabetes cannot have a family, job, &#8216;normal&#8217; life.</p>
<p>Nope, not true.</p>
<p>Fact:  Thanks to regular blood sugar testing and the ability to anticipate the  need for insulin after meals and snacks, most diabetics can have  children, be employed and live normal lives.</p>
<p>8.	Diabetes can be  controlled by diet alone and isn&#8217;t that big of a deal.<br />
Definitely WRONG.</p>
<p>Fact: Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to many  potentially fatal issues. Diabetes is a big deal and needs to be  managed properly through the recommendations of your health care team to  avoid diabetic complications. While some types of diabetes do not  require insulin injections or medications like metformin,  others rely on it for continued survival.</p>
<p>9.	People with Diabetes  get sick more often than healthy people.<br />
Completely wrong.</p>
<p>Fact: Having diabetes does not make people  more prone to the flu or colds. In fact, most diabetics are more  observant about sanitary practices and avoiding viruses and germs  because having the flu makes diabetes difficult to manage.</p>
<p>10.	 Insulin cures Diabetes.<br />
Sadly untrue.</p>
<p>Fact: Insulin does not cure diabetes. There  isn&#8217;t a known cure for diabetes yet, but there are many medical studies  and clinical trials underway that are actively seeking to cure it.</p>

Today, more women are surviving  breast cancer than ever before. Over two million women are breast cancer  survivors. With early detection and prompt and appropriate treatment,  the outlook for women with breast cancer can be positive.</p>

<p>No one  knows why some women develop breast cancer and others do not. Although  the disease may affect younger women, 75% of all breast cancer occurs in  women age 50 or older. Some of the noted risks factors include familial  or genetics, exposure to estrogen, demographic factors (age, race,  ethnicity, and socioeconomic status), nutrition and lifestyle, and  smoking.</p>
<p>Symptoms of breast cancer are hardly noticeable when it  first develops but as the cancer grows, it can cause changes that women  should watch for. The most common symptom is an abnormal lump or  swelling in the breast, but lumps may also appear beside the breast or  under the arm. Other symptoms may include unexplained breast pain,  abnormal nipple discharge, changes in breast texture, or changes in the  skin on or around the breast.</p>
<p><strong>Breast Cancer Screening</strong></p>
<p>To  screen or not to screen &#8211; that is the dilemma. The problem is not  simply medical but also a matter of economics. Diagnosis of cancer,  whether initial or recurrence, is the period of greatest acute stress  for a cancer patient. This crisis is defined by sadness (depression),  fear (anxiety), confusion, and occasional anger.</p>
<p>The goal of  screening women for breast cancer is to detect cancer in its earliest  stage when surgery and medical treatment can be most effective in  reducing mortality. Screening is only beneficial when an earlier  diagnosis results in a reduction in mortality and morbidity and when the  risks of the screening test are low. There are three methods for breast  cancer screening that are currently practiced: X-ray mammography,  clinical breast examination and breast self-examination.</p>
<p>Of the  three screening methods, the most reliable by far is mammography.  However, in women with very dense breast tissue, both ultrasound and  mammograms may miss tumors, which, however, can be detected by a  Magnetic Resonance Imager (MRI). MRI is also more accurate for detecting  cancer in women who carry the breast cancer genes BRCA1 and BRCA2.  However, the principal means of diagnosis &#8211; and many believe the only  definitive one &#8211; is biopsy &#8211; a minor surgical procedure in which the  lump or part of the lump is removed and examined under a microscope for  cancer cells. A doctor might perform fine needle aspiration, a needle or  core biopsy, or a surgical biopsy.</p>
<p><strong>Mammography</strong></p>
<p>A  mammogram is a special x-ray of the breast that often can detect  cancers that are too small for a woman or her doctor to feel. Screening  aims to detect breast cancer at a very early stage when cure is more  likely. The amount of radiation needed to produce a clear mammogram  (picture) varies with breast size and density. To avoid undue exposure  it is highly desirable to use the lowest possible dose of radiation  needed.</p>
<p>A mammogram cannot distinguish between a benign or  malignant tumor and thus is not 100% accurate. However, mammography  detects over 90% of all breast cancer though a negative mammography does  not necessarily indicate its absence. Mammography and clinical  examination are complementary and if there is strong suspicion of a  palpable lesion, the only way to make a positive diagnosis is by having a  biopsy.</p>
<p>The results of several large studies have convincingly  demonstrated that breast cancer screening by mammography reduces  mortality by approximately 30% in women older than 50 years. The  American Cancer Society states that women of 40 to 49 years of age  should receive screening mammograms every one to two years. Yearly  mammography screening is recommended for women of 50 years and older.</p>
<p>However  the risks of any screening intervention need to be evaluated as closely  as the benefits. The risks associated with mammography screening for  breast cancer include, radiation exposure, false positives, and  over-diagnosis. The risk of radiation-induced breast cancer from  screening mammography is estimated to be minimal. The excess risk for  breast cancer caused by radiation is increased with a younger age of the  woman at exposure and increasing cumulative radiation dose. However,  the benefits of mammography still significantly outweigh the risk of  radiation-induced breast cancer.</p>
<p><strong>Clinical Breast  Examination (CBE)</strong></p>
<p>During a clinical breast examination,  the doctor checks the breasts and underarms for lumps or other changes  that could be a sign of breast cancer. The CBE involves bilateral  inspection and palpation of the breasts and the axillary and  supraclavicular areas. Examination should be performed in both the  upright and supine positions. One of the best predictors of examination  accuracy is the length of time spent by the examiner.</p>
<p>The efficacy  of CBE alone in screening for breast cancer is uncertain. The results  of several large studies have convincingly demonstrated the  effectiveness of CBE when combined with mammography as screening for  breast cancer in women older than age 50 years. The American Cancer  Society advises that women should have CBEs every three years from age  20 to 39 years. Annual CBEs should be performed on women 40 years of age  and older.</p>
<p><strong>Breast Self-Examination (BSE)</strong></p>
<p>A  systematic examination by a woman in which she uses her fingers to feel  for changes in her breast shape and fluid discharge from the nipple in  order to detect any abnormalities. It is ideally carried out every  month. Estimates vary, but 80 to 95% are first discovered as a lump by  the patient. Intuitively it follows that regular breast self-examination  as a complementary screening modality perhaps along with mammography  may help discover some cancers at an earlier stage, when the prognosis  is more favorable.</p>
<p>Approximately four out of every five breast  lumps so detected turn out to be a cyst or other benign (noncancerous)  lesion. If a lump is found, however, it is essential to determine as  quickly as possible if it is cancerous or not. There are now several  epidemiologic studies indicating that survival is increased in women  practicing breast self-examination and that cancers detected by breast  self-examination tend to be smaller.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Treatment</strong></span></p>
<p>Once  breast cancer has been found, it is staged. Through staging, the doctor  can tell if the cancer has spread and, if so, to what parts of the  body. More tests may be performed to help determine the stage. Knowing  the stage of the disease helps the doctor plan treatment.</p>
<p>The  choice of treatment for breast cancer depends on a woman&#8217;s age and  general health, as well as the type, the stage, and location of the  tumour, and if the cancer has remained in the breast or has spread to  other parts of the body. There are a number of treatments, but the ones  women choose most often &#8211; alone or in combination &#8211; are surgery,  radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and hormone therapy.</p>
<p>Standard  cancer treatments are generally designed to surgically take out the  cancer; stop cancer cells from getting the hormones they need to survive  and grow through hormone therapy; use high-energy beams to kill cancer  cells and shrink tumors through radiation therapy and use anti-cancer  drugs to kill cancer cells through chemotherapy.</p>
<p>However, the  current view holds that cancer is a systemic disease involving a complex  spectrum of host-tumor relationships, with cancer cells spread via the  bloodstream, and therefore variations in local or regional therapy are  unlikely to affect a patient&#8217;s survival. Rather, the cancer must be  attacked systemically, through the use of radiation therapy,  chemotherapy, hormone therapy and immunotherapy.</p>
<p>For women with  early-stage breast cancer, one common available treatment is a  lumpectomy combined with radiation therapy. A lumpectomy is surgery that  preserves a woman&#8217;s breast. In a lumpectomy, the surgeon removes only  the tumor and a small amount of the surrounding tissue. The survival  rate for a woman who has this therapy plus radiation is similar to that  for a woman who chooses a radical mastectomy, which is complete removal  of a breast.</p>
<p>If the breast cancer has spread locally &#8211; just to  other parts of the breast &#8211; treatment may involve a combination of  chemotherapy and surgery. Doctors first shrink the tumor with  chemotherapy and then remove it through surgery. Shrinking the tumor  before surgery may allow a woman to avoid a mastectomy and keep her  breast.</p>
<p>If the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, such  as the lung or bone, chemotherapy and/or hormonal therapy might be used  to destroy cancer cells and control the disease. Radiation therapy may  also be useful to control tumors in other parts of the body.</p>
<p>Because  30% of breast cancers recur, the National Cancer Institute urges all  women with breast cancer to have chemotherapy or hormone therapy  following surgery, even if there is no evidence that the cancer has  spread. Such systemic adjuvant therapy, as it is called, can prevent or  delay about one-third of recurrences.</p>
<p><strong>Breast Cancer  Prevention</strong></p>
<p>Breast cancer cannot be completely prevented,  but the risk of developing advanced disease can be greatly reduced by  early detection.</p>
<p>Several drugs are now available to treat or  prevent breast cancer. Chemopreventive agents such as Tamoxifen and  Raloxifene act to prevent the development of breast cancer by  interrupting the process of initiation and promotion of tumors. The  antiestrogenic effect of these agents appears also to lead to growth  inhibition of malignant cells. Chemoprevention is the most promising  intervention for achieving primary prevention at this time.</p>
<p><strong>Tamoxifen</strong></p>
<p>Tamoxifen  is a nonsteroidal antiestrogen with a partial estrogen agonist effect.  It is FDA-approved, and is now used for estrogenreceptive cancer  patients and also for high-risk individuals who are still menstruating  and producing considerable estrogen.</p>
<p>Given by mouth, it may  increase the risk of stage I endometrial cancer and also may worsen  vaginal dryness and hot flashes. Tamoxifen may be less effective as a  preventive agent in women with a strong family of breast cancer.</p>
<p><strong>Raloxifene</strong></p>
<p>Raloxifene  hydrochloride is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) that  blocks the action of estrogen in the breast and endometrial tissue. The  incidence of estrogen receptor positive invasive breast cancer was  reduced by 76% among women treated with either dose of raloxifene at 40  months of follow-up time. The side effects of raloxifene include an  increased risk of thromboembolic disease, but not an increased risk of  endometrial cancer.</p>

In North America, about 1 in 5 females and 1  in 15 males suffer migraine attacks of varying frequency and severity.  The condition is considered to be chronic if migraines are experienced  for 15 days or more a month. Intense head pain is the hallmark of  migraines but they are much more than this.</p>
<p><strong>The migraine  experience</strong></p>
<p>There are five phases to a migraine attack. Victims  of migraine may not experience every phase but will tend to experience  the same phases each time.</p>
<p>The <em>prodrome phase </em>affects more  than half of all migraine victims and precedes the headache phase by  several hours or even days. Symptoms may include a dramatic change in  mood, a heightened sensitivity to light, fatigue, loss of appetite,  muscle pain, nausea, diarrhea or any other significant change from  normal well being. Every migraine victim, or migraineur as they are  called, will experience their own particular symptoms. Recognizing the  prodrome symptoms provides an opportunity for early abortive treatment.</p>
<p>The  <em>aura phase</em> affects about 20% of migraineurs. The symptoms are  neurological and can be quite frightening. They develop gradually over 5  to 20 minutes and usually last less than an hour. The aura phase is  named after the most common type of symptom which is a disturbance of  vision. This may involve flashing lights, dazzling zigzag lines,  blurred, cloudy or shimmering vision, tunnel vision or even a zone of  visual loss. Other symptoms include a tingling sensation moving from one  hand up the arm and into one side of the face, auditory or olfactory  hallucinations, vertigo, difficulty in communicating and  hypersensitivity to touch. Migraines with an aura are referred to as  classic migraines and those without an aura are called common migraines.</p>
<p>The  <em>pain or headache phase</em> usually begins within an hour or so after  the aura phase has ended. Head pain with migraines is much more intense  than with tension-type headaches and at its worse can be almost  unbearable. It typically occurs on one side of the head and tends to be a  throbbing kind of pain. Other typical symptoms include nausea and  vomiting and an abnormal, distressing sensitivity to light, sounds,  smells and touch. Some sufferers may experience abdominal pain,  diarrhea, trembling, cold sweats or poor balance. The pain phase usually  lasts between 4 hours and 3 days. Migraines are often made worse by  physical activity and for many, a migraine attack is so debilitating  that they are bed ridden during the pain phase.</p>
<p>The <em>resolution  phase</em> occurs when the head pain gradually subsides over a period of  several hours.</p>
<p>The <em>postdrome phase</em> has been called the  migraine hangover phase. It can last as little as a few hours or as much  as several days. During this time the migraine victim will feel tired  and irritable, may have a queasy, sick stomach, have difficulty  concentrating and may have sore muscles. Eventually even these symptoms  subside as the body fully recovers.</p>
<p><strong>What causes a migraine?</strong></p>
<p>Although  the exact cause of migraines has not been proven, the prevailing theory  suggests that migraines are a genetically inherited neurological  disorder involving the brain stem, the trigeminal nerve and the blood  vessels on the surface of the brain.</p>
<p>Before the onset of pain  there is a phenomenon call cortical spreading depression. CSD is a  malfunction in the electrophysiology of the brain, in which a slowly  expanding wave of depolarization depresses neurological activity over an  area of the cortex. At the leading edge of the CSD there is a brief  period of stimulated neuronal activity and this is thought to be the  cause of the strange symptoms that occur during the aura.</p>
<p>At about  the same time as the CSD occurs; parts of the brain stem become highly  activated. This abnormal neuronal activity moves from the brain stem  through the trigeminal nerve toward the blood vessels on the surface of  the brain. Serotonin levels drop triggering the trigeminal nerve to  release chemicals called neuropeptides. These cause the blood vessels to  dilate and become inflamed which causes the intense pain.</p>
<p>This  neurological disorder appears to be triggered by a multitude of  environmental, dietary, and lifestyle conditions as well as hormonal  changes and medications. Some triggers are fairly common but they can  vary considerably between individuals. A change in estrogen level in the  body is known to trigger a migraine which explains why more women  suffer from migraines than men and why their migraines are often tied to  their menstrual cycles.</p>
<p><strong>Treatment and prevention of migraines</strong></p>
<p>Migraines  can not be cured and no medication exists at this time that is  completely effective in relieving the symptoms. Living with migraines  requires treatment to reduce symptoms during an attack and prevention to  reduce the frequency of attacks. Some experimentation is needed to  discover what works best for you. If you suffer from migraines you  should seek professional medical help.</p>
<p>Your first priority should  be prevention. It is easy to respond to a splitting headache but working  to avoid the next headache takes a little dedication. Keep a diary and  try to identify your headache triggers. Begin by researching and  checking common triggers. Eliminating known triggers can be the most  productive way to reduce the frequency and severity of attacks. Be more  conscious of your health. Strive to maintain regular patterns for eating  and sleeping and maintain a regimen of moderate exercise.</p>
<p>Medications  called triptans are usually the first choice in treating migraines.  They are designed to stop a migraine attack after the pain phase begins  by stimulating serotonin to reduce inflammation and constrict blood  vessels. Triptans are effective in reducing the symptoms of typical  migraines in the majority of patients but they may not work for  unusually severe migraines. Triptans carry the risk of serious side  effects and it taken too frequently will cause medication overuse  headaches. They should not be used during pregnancy or if you have high  blood pressure or a heart condition. They are an expensive medication  for anyone not covered by a drug plan.</p>
<p><strong>Aromatherapy &#8211; a  complementary therapy</strong></p>
<p><a rel="attachment wp-att-121" href="http://www.ukvalueshares.com/migraine-headaches-and-aromatherapy/aromatherapy-classes2/"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-121" title="aromatherapy-classes2" src="http://www.ukvalueshares.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/aromatherapy-classes2-300x176.jpg" alt="" width="300" height="176" /></a>Few migraine sufferers are happy with  results delivered by migraine medication alone and try alternative  therapies to ease their discomfort. Aromatherapy is a good choice for a  safe complementary therapy. Although some migraineurs with acute  sensitivity to odors and touch can not use Aromatherapy, many have  discovered that it delivers significant improvement in pain and nausea  relief.</p>
<p>Several essential oils are effective in reducing headache  pain but peppermint oil (menthe piperita) is the first choice. Clinical  studies have shown that its analgesic effect is comparable to  acetaminophen. It will also help to alleviate the nausea and can be used  in conjunction with prescribed medications. Dilute a few drops of  peppermint oil with carrier oil such as Jojoba or Almond and rub the  blend into your temples, onto your forehead, or on the back of your neck  at the hairline. Alternately you may inhale the peppermint by using a  diffuser or a personal inhaler or by simply placing a few drops on a  tissue.</p>
<p>Other essential oils worthy of consideration are Lavender,  Rosemary, Roman Chamomile and Marjoram.</p>
<p>Ginger essential oil has  been found to be very effective in reducing nausea and many find it to  be very helpful during a migraine attack.</p>
<p>Migraines are a serious  illness that can significantly disrupt your life. Always consult your  doctor and try to find the treatment that works best for you.</p>

Migraine is widespread in the population. In the U.S., 18% of women and  6% of men report having had at least one migraine episode in the  previous year. Migraines afflict about 30 million people in the United  States. They may occur at any age, but usually begin between the ages of  10 and 40 and diminish after age 50. Some people experience several  migraines a month, while others have only a few migraines throughout  their lifetime. Approximately 75% of migraine sufferers are women.</p>
<p>Migraines&#8217;  secondary characteristics are inconsistent. Triggers precipitating a  particular episode of migraine vary widely. The efficacy of the simplest  treatment, applying warmth or coolness to the affected area of the  head, varies between persons, sometimes worsening the migraine.  Migraines are classified as either &#8220;with aura&#8221; or &#8220;without aura.&#8221;  Migraine is a neurological disorder that generally involves recurring  headaches. Other symptoms may occur with the headaches. Migraines are  often classified based on whether they include an early symptom called  an aura. Visual aura is the most common of the neurological events.</p>
<p>Migraine  is a true organic neurological disease. Migraine with aura is  characterized by a neurological phenomenon (aura) that is experienced 10  to 30 minutes before the headache. Most auras are visual and are  described as bright shimmering lights around objects or at the edges of  the field of vision (called scintillating scotomas) or zigzag lines,  wavy images, or hallucinations. Migraine without aura is the most  prevalent type and may occur on one or both sides (bilateral) of the  head. Tiredness or mood changes may be experienced the day before the  headache. Nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light (photophobia) often  accompany migraine without aura. Migraine headaches affect about 11 out  of 100 people. They are a common type of chronic, recurring headache.  They most commonly occur in women and usually begin between the ages of  10 and 46. In some cases, they appear to run in families. A migraine is  caused by abnormal brain activity, which is triggered by stress, food,  or some other factor.</p>
<p>Migraine-specific therapies are designed  specifically to treat migraine attacks. Ergotamine preparations are no  longer readily available. Several medications may need to be tried  before you find one that works. A class of drugs known as triptans can  relieve a migraine once it starts. Rest in a quiet, darkened room. Drink  fluids to prevent dehydration, especially if vomiting occurs. Several  medications may help relieve symptoms. However, the effectiveness of  migraine medications is highly variable in different people.</p>
<p>Some  medicines can prevent migraines. These include propranolol,  amitriptyline, ergonovine, cyproheptadine, clonidine, methysergide,  calcium channel antagonists, valproic acid, carbamazepine, topiramate  (Topamax), and many others. Ergotamine tartrate preparations constrict  the arteries of the head and may be used alone or in combination with  other drugs such as caffeine (Cafergot), phenobarbital, or Fioricet.  Propoxyphene or other medications that relieve pain or inflammation may  provide relief for some people. Nausea should be treated early with  Reglan, Compazine, or other anti-emetics.</p>
<p>Migraines Treatment Tips</p>
<p>1.  Conventional treatment focuses on three areas: trigger avoidance,  symptomatic control, and preventive drugs.</p>
<p>2. Moderation in  alcohol and caffeine intake, consistency in sleep habits, and regular  meals may be helpful.</p>
<p>3. Triptans are a mid-line treatment  suitable for many migraineurs with typical migraines.</p>
<p>4. Ergot  drugs can be used either as a preventive or abortive therapy, though  their relative expense.</p>
<p>5. Sumatriptan and related selective  serotonin receptor agonists are now the therapy of choice for chronic  migraine attacks.</p>
<p>6. Anti-emetics by suppository or injection may  be needed in cases where vomiting dominates the symptoms.</p>
<p>7.  Amidrine is sometimes prescribed for migraine headaches.</p>
<p>8.  Intravenous chlorpromazine has proven very effective in treating status  migrainosus&#8211;intractable and unremitting migraine.</p>
<p>9. Diet,  visualization, and self-hypnosis are also alternative treatments and  prevention approaches.</p>
<p>10. Massage therapy and physical therapy  are often very effective forms of treatment to reduce the frequency and  intensity of migraines.</p>
<p>11. Massage therapy of the jaw area can  also reduce such pain.</p>
<p>12. Botox is being used by many headache  specialists for patients with frequent or chronic migraines with  encouraging results.</p>
<p>13. Try to avoid any factors that have  triggered a migraine in the past.</p>

<p>Dehydration is a critical loss of water in the body. Potentially  fatal, dehydration is a risk of Type II Diabetes caused by not  controlling the amounts of insulin and sugars in the blood.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">In  normal people, the first sign of dehydration is thirst. This mechanism  is disrupted in diabetics. Diabetics rarely feel thirsty and this causes  many complications. Two of the common problems arising from dehydration  are loss of vision, as the eyes dry out, or a loss of consciousness.</p>
<p>Advanced  dehydration is not something people can treat at home. Emergency room  or hospital care is almost always needed. Only in mild cases, such as  thirst, can be taken care of at home. But be careful of drinking too  much water. As rare as it is, water poisoning is as severe as  dehydration and as potentially fatal. Never drink more than 16-20 oz of  liquid at any one time, even if you are thirsty.</p>
<p>There are many  things anyone can do to prevent dehydration.</p>
<p>Certain medications  and drugs encourage dehydration. One of the most potent and prevalent  drug is caffeine. Beverages with caffeine will dehydrate the body, even  though you are drinking the liquid. Diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and pain  relievers cause the body to lose water. Excessive use of acetaminophen  is especially damaging to your kidneys, especially during dehydration.  In the case of hospitalization, request to be given saline solution.  Solutions containing sugar, dextrose, glucose, lactose, and lactated  Ringer&#8217;s solution could cause a severe diabetic reaction.</p>
<p>Visit a  doctor immediately if you are vomiting or have diarrhea issues. Both  conditions will upset blood sugar and hydration levels quickly.  Immediately start drinking small, continuous sips of water with ½  teaspoon of sea salt added. The sodium and potassium helps your large  intestines absorb the fluid.</p>
<p>Most adults need 3-4 liters of water a  day. If you drink soda, coffee, energy drinks, caffeinated drinks,  fruit juices or alcohol, drink twice the amount in water than you drink  of the other liquids. This will offset the diuretic effects of caffeine,  sugar, and alcohol. This additional water is in addition to the 3-4  liters a day. It is possible to become dehydrated by drinking gallons of  soda or coffee. Energy drinks provide mostly sugars and will dehydrate  the persons who drink it. Energy drinks, such as Gatorade, 5-Hour  Energy, and Red Bull, should never be drunk when exercising or expending  large amounts of energy because all are dehydrating drinks.</p>
<p>If  you wanted to make a drink that supplied water, electrolytes and a small  amount of energy, add to one gallon of water, 1-2 cups of quality fruit  juice and ½ teaspoon of sea salt.</p>
